Geometric Wooden Lanterns

Bloom Lanterns was a large-scale decorative art installation created for Sonic Bloom Festival 2019 at Hummingbird Ranch in Rye, Colorado. The brief was to design and fabricate a collection of oversized illuminated sculptures that would transform an open field into an otherworldly landscape - visible during the day as striking geometric forms and coming alive at night as radiant beacons of light.

The collection consists of four lanterns - two icosahedrons and one dodecahedron - CNC routed from birch plywood with intricate sacred geometry patterns cut into every face. The designs draw from the flower of life, Metatron's cube, and other geometric motifs that resonate with the festival's ethos of consciousness and connection.

The panels were precision-cut on a CNC router, then hand-assembled and finished on-site. Interior LED lighting transforms the lanterns at night - warm light pours through the geometric cutouts, casting intricate shadow patterns across the surrounding ground and creating intimate gathering spaces where festival-goers would sit, talk, and take in the mountain air.

Standing 5 feet tall, the lanterns were scattered across the festival grounds at Hummingbird Ranch, nestled against the backdrop of the Spanish Peaks. By day they served as wayfinding landmarks and photo opportunities; by night they became the heart of the social landscape - glowing nodes that drew people together in the Colorado darkness.
